Rebuilding After a Landslide in Xieng Khouang

In 2023, a catastrophic landslide struck Xieng Khouang Province in northern Lao PDR, burying homes and farmland under tons of mud and debris. The Xieng Khouang Disaster Response Team (XKDRT), a local organization, stepped up to help the affected communities but needed funding to make a meaningful impact. They turned to ODBOX Ventures for help.

XKDRT launched a heartfelt campaign on www.odboxventures.com, highlighting the devastation caused by the landslide and the resilience of the affected communities. The campaign featured stories of families who had lost their homes, as well as a clear plan for rebuilding and disaster prevention. ODBOX Ventures’ platform made it easy for donors to contribute, and the campaign quickly gained momentum.

The Results

The campaign raised over $90,000 in just three months. The funds were used to:

• Rebuild 25 homes for families displaced by the landslide.
• Restore access to clean water by repairing damaged wells and installing new water systems.
• Provide emergency supplies, such as food, clothing, and blankets, to affected families.
• Launch a community education program on landslide prevention and sustainable land use.

The impact was transformative. Families who had lost everything were able to rebuild their lives, while the community became better prepared to prevent and respond to future landslides. The campaign also raised awareness about the importance of sustainable land management in mountainous regions.
